Mandurah gives you a regional healthcare base with Perth’s tertiary system close enough to lean on. What that means for your week depends a lot on your profession and where the work sits.
The local picture
The Peel region is served by a health campus combining public and private services, alongside community and primary care and a steady private imaging presence across the city. It handles the general and outpatient load of a growing population. What it does not do is the most complex, high-acuity and subspecialty work — that concentrates in Perth’s tertiary hospitals, under an hour north, and referrals move up the line for it.
For medical imaging — the area we currently recruit into in Western Australia — that usually means a broad general caseload locally, with the subspecialty and interventional work weighted towards the city.
What to ask before you sign
The title tells you less than the setting. Before you commit, get clear on the modality mix and equipment, the on-call and rostering, the supervision and development available, and how much of the interesting work stays local versus travelling to Perth. A role that looks the same on paper can be a very different week here than in a capital.
- You will need Ahpra registration through your profession’s National Board before you can practise.
- Medical radiation professionals also need a Western Australian radiation use licence — a state requirement on top of registration.
- Both are set out in full, with official sources, in the national eligibility & registration guide, and the pathway checker shows the likely route for your profession.
A solid regional and community base with the tertiary system an hour away. Ask what stays local and what travels to Perth — that answer shapes the job more than the location does.
