The money

Cost of living

Mandurah Guide · Chapter 7 of 9

Mandurah generally costs less to live in than Perth’s coastal suburbs — that is much of the point — with a couple of things that quietly cost more. We do not print dollar figures we have not verified; the tools below build a budget.

What costs less, the same, and more

Housing is the headline: for the same money you are generally closer to the water here than in equivalent Perth suburbs, and the newer estates offer more house again. Groceries, services and the everyday sit broadly where they do across the Perth region. Two things run the other way — keeping a house cool through a long hot summer, and the cost of distance: fuel and time if you commute to Perth, and pricier flights home from a regional base.

Budget it properly

Set-up costs, rent in advance and bond, the flights and the first months all add up, and they are the same wherever in Australia you land. Build the number with the moving-cost calculator, and read how tax, superannuation and the Medicare levy work in the national money, tax & banking guide before you commit to anything.

In one line

Cheaper than coastal Perth, especially on housing — just budget for summer cooling and the cost of the distance.
