For many couples in healthcare, the hardest part of an international move isn’t one job. It’s two.
For Sandra and Amal, it was also a family. Sandra was working as an ODP (operating department practitioner) in the NHS in the UK. Amal was working at a leading hospital in the UAE. For the last year, their careers meant living and working in different countries, while they were learning to be a new family after the arrival of their baby daughter.
Two careers, one hospital.
Over the past few months, we supported Sandra and Amal with their move to Wellington. Both were offered roles as anaesthetic technicians, and both now work at the same hospital.
“Sophie was always responsive, honest, and genuinely cared about helping us succeed. Both my wife and I secured positions — giving us the chance to build our careers together and reunite our family.”
Amal
Together in one place, for the first time in a long time.
Amal recently sent Sophie this video from Wellington Airport: the moment he met Sandra there. “It made my heart feel happy,” Sophie says.
What it meant to them.
“This means so much to us and our family, and I am truly grateful for all your support and guidance throughout the process. Your kindness, trust, encouragement, and believing in us during such an important time has meant a great deal to me.”

Onam, together in Wellington.
This year Amal, Sandra and their daughter celebrated Onam together in Wellington, in traditional dress, with the city’s Malayali community.
Exciting, and emotional too.
International relocation can be exciting, but it can also feel emotional and overwhelming at times, especially when children and family life are involved. That is why we plan a move around the whole family, not just the job.
Moving as a couple?
If you both work in healthcare, the question is whether both of you can register and find the right roles in the same place. That is something we can help you work out early.
