Occupational Therapist — Hawke’s Bay

About the role
You’ll join an inpatient Occupational Therapy team with a primary focus on acute medical services and supporting patients experiencing frailty. Working alongside whaiora, whānau and the wider multidisciplinary team, you’ll deliver high-quality, person-centred care in the hospital setting.
You’ll bring clinical confidence and sound reasoning to assessment, intervention and complex discharge planning, often finding innovative, adaptable ways to meet individual needs. While your primary base is the medical inpatient team, you’ll also be part of a flexible Allied Health workforce, contributing across other inpatient areas as needs evolve, and supporting and mentoring rotational Occupational Therapists across the wards.
What the role involves
- Thorough occupational therapy assessment and evidence-based intervention for medical inpatients, including those experiencing frailty
- Safe, timely and creative discharge planning alongside whaiora, whānau and the MDT
- Mentoring and guiding rotational Occupational Therapists and students
- Contributing to service development and quality-improvement projects
- Supporting a collaborative, adaptable Allied Health workforce across inpatient services
About you
- A Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification)
- Registered in New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate, or eligible to obtain one
- Around three years’ clinical experience, ideally in an inpatient or acute setting
- Strong clinical reasoning, adaptability and problem-solving
- Enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team and a flexible service model
- Committed to ongoing development and to equitable, culturally responsive care
- Able to support, guide and mentor rotational Occupational Therapists
