General Medicine Physician — Whanganui
Ethicare is recruiting two General Medicine Physicians for a regional hospital in Whanganui. You would join a team of nine physicians serving around 80,000 people, in a service that will negotiate ongoing subspecialty practice for physicians who are dual trained.
About the role
The general medicine team provides medical services to the Whanganui region — roughly 65,000 people in the city and a further 16,000 in the surrounding districts. The inpatient side runs across a 35-bed medical ward, a 16-bed acute stroke unit, a six-bed critical care unit and a 40-bed surgical ward.
The week is a mix of ward work, two outpatient clinics and an ECG stress clinic, with the option to take on more clinics if you want them. Registrars and resident medical officers rotate through, and their support and teaching is part of the role.
What the role involves
- Clinical assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of medical inpatients
- Two outpatient clinics a week and one ECG stress clinic, with flexibility to take more
- Supporting registrars and resident medical officers
- Ongoing subspecialty practice, negotiable for physicians who are dual trained
- Contributing to equity, cultural safety and better Māori health outcomes across the service
About you
- FRACP or an equivalent qualification
- Vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or eligible
- Overseas-trained doctors will need EPIC source verification of their qualifications — we help with this
- Collaborative, and comfortable leading within a small, close team
About Whanganui
Whanganui sits where the river meets the Tasman: a heritage main street, an unhurried pace, and a temperate climate year round. Beaches are half an hour away, the ski fields and lakes of the central plateau an hour and a half inland, Wellington two and a half hours south and Auckland an hour by air. Our Palmerston North guide covers the neighbouring city and the wider Manawatū.
