Consultant Psychiatrist, Addictions — Tauranga
Ethicare is recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist for a specialist addiction service in Tauranga, at 0.6 FTE. It is a clinical leadership role across the Bay of Plenty district, inside a service with an established peer group of psychiatrists and a training scheme behind it.
About the role
The specialist addiction service covers the Bay of Plenty district and works with addiction clinicians, GPs and community pharmacists as well as its own multidisciplinary team. You would provide clinical leadership in addiction treatment, and deliver assessment, treatment and consultation for substance use and addiction presentations.
Psychiatric registrars come through the Upper Central North Island training scheme, and fifth- and sixth-year medical students from the University of Auckland rotate through, so teaching is part of the week. Service development and quality improvement sit with the consultant group.

- Clinical leadership in addiction treatment across the district
- Assessment, treatment and consultation for substance use and addiction
- Working with the multidisciplinary team, GPs and community pharmacists
- Supervising registrars and teaching medical students
- Contributing to service development and quality improvement
About you
- Vocationally registered as a psychiatrist with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or eligible
- Fellowship of the RANZCP, or the equivalent — essential
- An interest in addiction medicine, and in the people it serves
- An interest in teaching and training
About Tauranga
Tauranga is New Zealand’s fifth-largest city and one of its sunniest: harbour on one side, Mount Maunganui’s surf beach on the other, and orchard country behind. Auckland is under three hours by road. Our Bay of Plenty guide covers where people live, what it costs and the weekends.
