MRI Medical Imaging Technologist — Wellington
Ethicare is recruiting an MRI Medical Imaging Technologist for a tertiary hospital’s imaging department in Wellington. It is a broad MRI caseload on two Siemens scanners — and one of the few MRI posts we see that will train you if the modality is new to you.
About the role
The department runs a 3T and a 1.5T Siemens scanner and a round-the-clock service, so the caseload reaches well past routine outpatient work: advanced neuro, cardiac, breast biopsy, paediatric and geriatric imaging, ICU patients scanned as inpatients, and research studies alongside the clinical list.
The team is growing, and it runs an established training programme. Previous MRI experience is not essential — if you hold an MIT qualification and the modality is new to you, additional training and support are part of the role rather than something you arrange yourself afterwards. If you are already an experienced MRI technologist, the breadth here is the reason to look at it.
The role includes the MRI on-call roster and rostered, rotating evening and weekend shifts. Read that twice before you apply: it is a real shift commitment, not an occasional inconvenience, and it is part of what keeps a 24-hour service running.
What the role involves
- MRI across a tertiary caseload: advanced neuro, cardiac, breast biopsy, paediatric, geriatric and ICU imaging
- Working across a 3T and a 1.5T Siemens scanner
- Supporting research studies alongside the clinical list
- Rostered and rotating evening and weekend shifts
- Participating in the MRI on-call roster
- Keeping your own professional development current, with the department's training programme behind you
About you
- A medical imaging or diagnostic radiography qualification, with registration — or eligibility for registration — with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board of New Zealand
- An MRI qualification, or the MIT qualification and a firm intention to train into the modality
- MRI experience is welcome but not essential — training and support are offered to the right candidate without it
- A commitment to continued professional development
- Willing to take on evening, weekend and on-call work as part of a 24-hour service
About Wellington
Wellington is New Zealand’s capital and its most walkable city: a compact centre wrapped around a harbour, with the hills and the town belt behind it and Miramar and the south coast twenty minutes away. It has the country’s densest concentration of cafes, theatres and live music, a proper public transport system by New Zealand standards, and real wind — which nobody who lives there pretends otherwise about. Housing costs less than Auckland’s and commutes are shorter than almost anywhere comparable. Our Wellington guide covers the neighbourhoods, schools and what the move costs.
