Consultant General Physician — Masterton, Wairarapa
Ethicare is recruiting a Consultant General Physician for a regional hospital in Masterton, in the Wairarapa. It is general internal medicine in the fullest sense — the acute roster, the wards, the clinics — in a department small enough that a subspecialty interest changes what the service can offer.
About the role
The Department of Medicine runs general internal medicine inpatient and outpatient services for the Wairarapa, together with a range of subspecialty clinics. You would take part in the acute roster, admitting and managing undifferentiated adult presentations, and carry your share of the inpatient and outpatient load.
The hospital has a high-dependency unit, and experience supporting an HDU is an advantage. A respiratory interest would be particularly welcome; so would any subspecialty expertise the department does not currently have.
What the role involves
- Acute general medicine: admitting and managing undifferentiated adult presentations on the roster
- Inpatient care across the medical wards, and outpatient clinics
- Supporting the high-dependency unit
- Contributing a subspecialty clinic where you have the interest and the department has the need
- Supervising and teaching junior doctors
About you
- A higher qualification in internal medicine recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for specialist registration — FRACP or equivalent
- Proven experience as a consultant physician in general medicine
- Registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or eligible for vocational registration
- An interest in respiratory medicine, a diploma in internal medicine, or HDU experience would each be an advantage
About Masterton and the Wairarapa
Masterton is the Wairarapa’s main town: a working rural centre with the Martinborough vineyards twenty minutes south, the Tararua Range to the west, and Wellington about ninety minutes away over the Remutaka Hill or by commuter train. Housing costs a fraction of the capital’s. Our Wellington guide covers the wider region.
